I love John Williams Waterhouse paintings. They have beautiful colors, romantic stories, and great "mood" to them.
This one, Juliet, reminds me of a dear friend, how she maybe looked when she was 14 (before I knew her.)
Waterhouse's paintings reference classical literature, Greek myths, and legends of King Arthur. (Click each link for examples.) He often repeats characters, doing different interpretations of the same character, such as his set of paintings on Psyche or Ophelia.
I made a reference to his painting "My Sweet Rose aka the Soul of a Rose" in one of my poems. Lovely!
His paintings are a bit too "romantic" or "idealized" for some, but I find him a pleasant change from Munich. (Sorry, Munich fans.)
I sort of assume that Waterhouse must have been a kind person because his paintings are so gentle, but that isn't necessarily the case. Maybe I should write a bio on him...someday....if a bazillion other people haven't beat me to it! I know Greek myths already, and I love classical literature and art, so that's a start!
