I have for some years been a fan of Debbie Ridpath Ohi, ever since 2007 in fact. I can pin it down to that year because that was the first year I did NaNoWriMo, and she did comics for it. (No longer regularly, alas.) Will Write for Chocolate used to be pretty good, but in my humble opinion it is losing steam.
My favorite comic of hers is Waiting for Frodo, the concept of which is thus: guy joins line a year or so in advance for The Fellowship of the Ring. The series continues through the trilogy with various characters and adventures along the way.
She periodically redos the archives/switches format, which can drive me a bit crazy because then the comics aren't all there, as is the case now. Also, there isn't a very easy way to read through the archives. Here is the beginning for Waiting for Frodo.
Waiting for Bilbo has only just launched because she couldn't do anything regularly until filming began. She has her fingers in a lot of pies, so don't expect anything regular.
