I am a fan of Dutch art, especially but not limited to Vermeer. Practically everyone recognizes his painting The Milkmaid with the window, a signature objects to include.
I was delighted to discover on the blog Lines and Colors a long time ago that a modern artist, Jonathon Janson, takes an enormous amount of interest and inspiration from Vermeer.
Janson does his own, modern-day version of Vermeer's paintings. Compare Janson's Young Girl Playing a Guitar to the seventeenth century Vermeer's classic Woman with a Lute.
Stylistically, Janson does a marvelous job imitating Vermeer. His brush strokes, texture, lighting, colors--wonderful!
