As Catholics battle against the HHS contraception and abortionificient mandant, the so-called compromise, and for our religious freedom and souls, we hear that "98% of Catholic women use contraception; ergo, it's just some cranky fuddy-duddies."
Bad logic.
Worse lies.
1. Truth/ethics is/are not determined by majority vote
2. It's a LIE. LIE LIE LIE LIE.
Ok. I'm a little emotional right now.
As the enlightened Happy Catholic put on her blog from Get Religion's original article, it's all a lie. We don't. They aren't counting me, they aren't counting my mother, they aren't counting my mother's friends. They aren't counting ANYONE who uses NFP. They aren't counting pregnant, post-partum, or trying to get pregnant women. They aren't counting virgins or reformed sinners. They're only counting those who had sex in the last 3 months, but without that ream of qualifiers.
There are a lot more Catholics than there should be (with "should be" being 0; I'd estimate 60% percent, but it also depends A LOT on the definition of "Catholic"--think: practicing/devote) who use contraception, but not 98%.
I don't want to be chopped out of this statistic.
