Monkees vs. Beatles

Ah, the great Monkees vs. Beatles debate. Let me say straight up I like them both. I can't say which I like more because my local library has a very limited collection of the Monkees but a very large set of the Beatles, so I can't really compare them. There are Monkees' songs I hate and Beatles songs I despise and same thing goes for positive feelings.

I was browsing the net killing time and I found a pro-Monkees article. Looks groovy. I'd like to see if there is a similar pro-Beatles-over-Monkees article somewhere.

Seriously--and this wasn't brought up in the article--is there a song in rock 'n' roll history that can beat "I'm a Believer"? Tie, yes, but actually beat? I don't think so. However, is there a song in Rock and roll history that can beat 8 Days a Week? I don't think so. Let's stop worrying about which group is "better" and just celebrate them both. The Monkees' history is rather sad (didn't write own lyrics at first, couldn't play, etc) but they got going and decided that they didn't want to be mere icons of rock 'n' roll stars but actual stars. I think that's pretty cool and not-lame. They could've skipped the effort, but they wanted to be genuine.
